This was my first view of Laos from the plane. Some people were gasping, they thought it was so beautiful.
Though it was (and is) pouring rain when I got to Laos, it still feels like this will be a great visit. It needs to rain here to stay so green!!
The process of getting a visa on arrival, getting my bags, exchanging money and finding my ride to the hotel happened in like 15 minutes. That is amazing since this morning I waited for my luggage alone in Hanoi for about 50 minutes. I hurried up, filled in my forms first! (It must be the New Yorker in me) and moved right through!

So now I'm in my guesthouse, staying in a bungalow that faces the Nam Khan River. This place is lush and beautiful. It is still raining but you can sit out on the balcony under an overhead and watch the river:
